Abstract

This research aims to analyze the reading literacy skills of class I students at Sonosewu Elementary School in teaching Indonesian. To achieve the objectives of this research using a qualitative descriptive approach through observation and interviews. observations were carried out in class I on Indonesian language learning, interviews were carried out with the interview subjects of the principal, class teacher and 2 class I students. The results of the study showed that of the 28 class I students, there were 4 students who did not read fluently, these students could identify letters and read words or short syllables, but often have difficulty reading longer phrases, students tend to be slow and not confident when reading. There are 2 students who cannot or have difficulty reading, students in this group have difficulty spelling syllables so they cannot read a sentence. Teachers try to overcome this problem by providing interesting media and learning assistance but have not been able to optimize students' reading literacy skills in Indonesian language learning. Student-centered learning strategies and models are needed to improve students' reading literacy skills. Researchers recommend a differentiated learning model in optimizing the reading literacy of class I students in Indonesian language learning.
